Description

The DD125 Direct-Drive Rotary Table is ideal for rapid and accurate positioning of small parts in machining operations such as milling, drilling, tapping, contouring, spiral milling and grinding. The DD125 is a fully programmable super precision rotary positioning device. The mechanical indexing head holds the workpiece and is controlled by either the all-digital servo control or by a machine control as a true 4th axis. The unit has an indexing resolution capable of 0.0001 degrees which translates to 0.36 arcseconds. At the encoder ring diameter, 1 arc-second equals 0.000009 inches (0.23 micron). The unit can be used in the horizontal position or in some cases mounted vertically for face and end-working applications. The rotary table also has an optional spindle clamp to help assist the motor for off-axis drilling and milling applications while maintaining a fixed position. Positioning of the spindle is accomplished through a wraparound rare-earth permanent magnet torque motor and an optical encoder system.

Advantages of the 5C DD125 Direct-Drive Rotary Table:

• No Backlash

• 1,000 rpm speed

• Compatibility with all 5C Workholding Solutions as well as Chucks and Fixturing Plates

• High Resolution Encoder Directly Mounted to the Rotating Spindle

• Optimal Repeatability and Positioning Accuracy

• Long life with Low Maintenance

The DD125 is offered with a wraparound rare-earth permanent magnet torque motor and meets the most rigorous industry codes. It has a peak torque of 25 ft-lbs [34 Nm]

As standard from the factory, the DD125 direct drive motor is set up to run air cooled. In normal indexing operations with standard coolant splash, the unit will run cool. In cases where there is no coolant being used in the machining process or in continuous rotation mode, the motor temperature may start to rise resulting in a loss of torque. The DD125 system is fitted with a means of liquid cooling via the two 1/8 npt ports on the side of the housing opposite the cable box. Inside the housing is a cooling jacket which allows chilled liquid to be circulated around the motor keeping the stator cool resulting in a doubling of the output torque of the motor. When liquid cooling is utilized a flow rate of 0.5 gal/min (2.0 l/min) is required. Air cooled the unit has a continuous torque of 8.4 ft-lbs (11.4 Nm). If liquid cooling is utilized the continuous torque can be increased to 15.7 ft-lbs (21.2 Nm). Using the liquid cooling will increase machining torque and reduce motor temperature rise.
